It has been a busy and productive term in Product Design, Fashion and Textiles, and Design and Visual Communication!
Our Year 7I and 7S Product Design classes were challenged to design their own space aircraft. Students developed their design drawing skills, created 3D models using Tinkercad, and brought their ideas to life by 3D printing and painting their designs to create unique keychains. The creativity and quality of the finished products were outstanding.
Year 7I completed their projects so efficiently that they had the opportunity to extend their learning by exploring Makey Makey circuit boards. Students designed and created traditional-inspired tukutuku panels, which they connected to the Makey Makey to produce interactive artwork. By incorporating conductive materials, they programmed each section of their tukutuku panel to share the meaning and symbolism behind its design, combining Māori art, technology, and digital storytelling in a creative and engaging way.
Our Year 8 Product Design students have produced some excellent insulated lunch bags, demonstrating growing confidence in their practical skills and attention to detail.
Year 9 Product Design students have been busy constructing functional, well-fitting pyjama shorts. They have shown great perseverance while developing their sewing and garment construction skills, with some fantastic finished products.
In Fashion and Textiles, our Year 10 students have worked exceptionally hard exploring functional modelling and prototyping through their hoodie project. They have embraced the design process and produced some outstanding results.
Following the completion of their Spatial Design assessment, our Year 11 Design and Visual Communication students have been developing their instrumental drawing skills by learning Orthographic Projection. This is an important technical drawing skill that they will apply in their Product Design assessment next term.
Well done to all of our students for their hard work, creativity, and commitment throughout the term. We look forward to seeing what they achieve in Term 3!
