Our Year 10 students participated in Big Build 2026, a challenge event where they tackled real-world problems and built prototypes.

The Big Build saw four of our Year 10 students join together to compete against other South Auckland schools and work together to tackle a genuine challenge, develop an innovative solution, build a simple prototype and present their idea.

On Wednesday 14th of October, a group of 5 students from our Year 10 business class were picked to attend the Big Build event, and I was privileged to be a part of that group. This was Big Build's first year running a campaign for Year 10 students from different schools. Being a part of this campaign has taught me much more about challenges within businesses. Throughout the day we got to build prototypes, present our ideas, and got to build connections with other students from the different schools. Being a part of this Big Build group was an amazing experience.

I really enjoyed the business trip because it was something different from our usual school days. We got to meet and work with students from other schools while using our creativity to solve the challenge of reducing rubbish and leftover food from school lunches. I liked being able to share ideas with others and think outside the box to come up with possible solutions. It was also exciting knowing that we were part of the first event being held. Overall, it was a fun experience that helped me see how important teamwork, creativity and listening to other people's ideas are when solving real-life problems.
