The International Festival spanning the entire week was truly incredible! Each day from November 3-7 we had specific activities planned to make the most out of this week. Here’s what happened:
Monday was for Dance, and we had traditional dances like the Filipino Tinikling stick dance, a traditional Chinese fan dance and several Indian dances performed that day in La Storta. Many students arrived at school in their cultural dress, which was amazing to see.
On Tuesday, we had Arts and Crafts, and made Japanese origami and Chinese paper lanterns— plus we brought out sticks so that everyone could give Tinikling a go. Even teachers got involved!
Thursday was the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration, where we tried some traditional food, played exciting Mexican games, and even won some awesome prizes.
Finally, on Friday we hosted the long-awaited Food Festival in La Storta. We had all sorts of food from our cultures present. Filipino, Brazilian, Spanish, Lebanese, Korean, Mexican, and Zimbabwe, were all a huge hit in the school.
Thank you to all parents and other helpers for supporting St Ignatius’ first International Festival, we appreciate all your work in the Food Festival and the Day of The Dead celebration!
Through these wonderful activities throughout the week, we acknowledged all 50 of our wonderful cultures at St Ignatius - not just our own cultures, but the cultures of others with pride, joy and inclusion. Despite our many differences (physical appearance, life experiences, culture) within our school community, God’s love and perfect image is clearly seen throughout each and every one of us here at St Ignatius and beyond. As we celebrate all cultures this week, may we continue to uphold Christ’s love for all people and find God in all things!
