2026 Pōwhiri and New Building Blessing

2026 Pōwhiri and New Building Blessing

2026 Pōwhiri and New Building Blessing.

On Thursday the 29th of January 2026, our college community gathered for a pōwhiri to welcome new staff and ākonga. We were joined by representatives from the Catholic Diocese of Auckland, Jesuit Education Australasia, and local iwi, a reminder of the significance of the occasion and of the support we receive from the wider community. While the pōwhiri welcomed those joining our community, it also highlighted the importance of Te Ao Māori in the life of the college.

After the pōwhiri, Bishop Steve Lowe led the blessing of the new building and courts. In his address to all present, he reminded us of our Catholic whakapapa through Bishop Pompallier and his commitment to people, particularly Māori, and that while the buildings are important, they are at the service of the community, forming and educating young people, and that this is more important. He then walked through the new building Blessing the classrooms and facilities, marking an important milestone for our school as we look ahead to the opportunities these new spaces will provide.
