Book Character Day 2026

Book Character Day 2026

Book Character Day

On Wednesday the 10th of June St Ignatius of Loyola Catholic College celebrated one of the highlights of our school year – Book Character Parade Day.

Our annual parade is an opportunity for students and staff to come together to celebrate reading, memorable characters, imaginative storytelling, and creativity. It is always a wonderful occasion, and this year's event was no exception.

The effort that students and staff put into their costumes was truly outstanding. From classic literary figures to modern favourites, the hall was filled with an incredible range of characters. We spotted everyone from Mary Poppins, Cinderella, Mrs Trunchbull, Aslan, and a Mandrake through to characters from contemporary novels, films, and popular culture.

Our staff fully embraced the spirit of the event. The Heads of House arrived as characters from Toy Story, while the Senior Leadership Team could be found wandering the school as Where's Wally? characters.

Adding to the fun, our guest judges, Mrs Anne Devoy, Mrs Deborah Chapman, and Mrs Carolyn Harvey, librarians from our feeder schools, arrived dressed as the Three Blind Mice.

With so many exceptional costumes on display, judging proved to be an incredibly difficult task. The creativity, attention to detail, and enthusiasm shown by our students made selecting winners no easy feat.

Congratulations to our 2026 Book Character Parade winners:
Best Dressed Year 7: Renee Afoa as Elphaba

Events such as Book Character Parade Day are part of what makes St Ignatius such a special place. They provide opportunities for students to express their creativity, celebrate their individuality, and demonstrate personal Magis while sharing in the joy that great books and stories bring to our community.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day such a success. We are already looking forward to seeing what wonderful characters appear in 2027!
