Young Vinnies Cooking Session
Mini Vinnies Cooking Session
This week, our Mini Vinnies put their learning into action during elective time with a hands-on cooking session. As part of our learning around food insecurity, our akonga have been exploring the challenges faced by individuals and families who may not have access to sufficient and nutritious food. To deepen this learning, students worked together to prepare spaghetti bolognese, developing practical skills in food preparation while also demonstrating teamwork, cooperation and service. The meals prepared by our Mini Vinnies will be donated to St Patrick's Foodbank, helping provide food for people in our local community who may be experiencing food insecurity. This experience gave our akonga an opportunity to move beyond learning about the issue and take meaningful action themselves. By sharing their time and skills, our students demonstrated the importance of compassion, generosity and service, and showed how small acts of kindness can make a positive difference in our community.
Speaking of making a positive difference, a big thank you to all the families who donated meat for our cooking session. We received such a generous amount that we’ll have enough to hold another one or two cooking sessions next term!
